## Shelter by wind in ACI Marina Vrboska

The marina lies in the outer part of the harbour of Vrboska, at the end of a deep, narrow bay on the north coast of Hvar. What to watch here is the sea itself in a strong jugo, below.

- Every wind from any side: Sheltered. Good shelter from every wind at the end of the long bay, ACI says. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) Vrboska is named as a safe shelter in a bura. Our cautious answer: expect gusts on the outer piers in any bura, and take an inner berth if you can. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)
- Strong jugo from the southeast: The sea can rise fast. In a strong jugo the sea sometimes comes in very fast, up to 2 m above its usual level, most of all in the narrow part of the bay towards Vrboska. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) Our advice: if a strong jugo is forecast, watch your lines and the gangway as the water rises and falls. People in Vrboska always watch for the šćiga: the bay is shaped like a bottle, so when the sea rushes in, the level rises and then falls again. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

The approach. From the north, the islet of Zečevo is a good mark: its light is Fl W 5s 11m 5M, at 43°11.5′N 16°42.1′E. By night, steer for the red light at the entrance to Jelsa (Fl R 3s 6m 5M). When the light on Cape Križ (Fl W 2s 5m 5M) comes in sight, so do the lights of Vrboska. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

The marina's piers are lit at night. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

## Wind and sea, next 3 days

For Vrboska. A strong jugo can raise the sea in the bay.

How to read this forecast

Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. The words follow the Beaufort scale, and the model can't tell a real bura from any other northeast wind.
