## The approach to Maslinica and shelter by wind

The islets. Seven islets lie off the village: Stipanska, the largest, Balkun, Rudula, Grmej, Saskinja, Polebrnjak and the rock Kamičić. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

From the north, keep west of Polebrnjak and Saskinja: between them and Šolta it is shallow, 2.8 m. The passage between Maslinica and Saskinja is only 2 m deep. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

From the south, watch for Kamičić, a low bare rock south of Balkun. At night it lies in the red sector of the Sveti Nikola light. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) The light on Cape Sveti Nikola, the south point of the entrance, stands on a square stone tower with a dome. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

The study advises against coming in at night, because the islets and rocks are hard to see. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

Within 300 m of the shore, in narrow channels and near harbours and anchorages, go no faster than 8 knots (Article 50). (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) [HHI nautical charts](https://www.hhi.hr/en/products-and-services/nautical-charts) (Official source, 25 Sep 2026)

Maslinica is the only village on the west side of Šolta, in a bay behind a group of islets. The marina and the county's anchorage study describe its shelter differently, so we give both below, wind by wind.

- Westerly and maestral from the west and northwest: Choppy in the approach. The water in front of Maslinica is only partly sheltered. Westerly and northwesterly winds raise a short, choppy sea and currents of over 0.5 knots, stronger still in a northerly or northwesterly. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) Maslinica is sheltered from all winds, but north-westerlies and westerlies raise a chop. Our cautious answer: in a strong westerly or maestral expect movement on the outer berths, and don't take the shallow passages between the islets in a jugo. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026) In westerly winds, boats anchor in the lee of Balkun in 6 to 50 m. The islets lie in a Natura 2000 area. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)
- Bura from the northeast: Maslinica is described as sheltered from all winds. Our cautious answer: expect some gusts in a strong bura. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)
- In the marina the operator's words: The marina calls its harbour naturally protected. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

## Wind and sea, next 3 days

For Maslinica. A westerly or northwesterly makes the approach choppy. Split, Trogir, Šolta, Brač and Vis all lie in the Middle Adriatic area of the DHMZ marine forecast. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

Model forecast from Open-Meteo. Not an official forecast. Not for navigation.

How to read this forecast

Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. The words follow the Beaufort scale, and the model can't tell a real bura from any other northeast wind.
