## Where to spend the night on Hvar

6 places to stay the night, counting the Pakleni Islands and Šćedro. Prices are for a 12 m boat in 2026. [What each wind does. Our cautious answer: weather descriptions, not a forecast: read DHMZ's forecast for sailors before you go. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet.](https://olasail.com/places/hvar/#wind)

### [Hvar town harbour](https://olasail.com/moorings/hvar-town-harbour/)

Town quay, the public waterfront berth, below the old town. Nautički centar Hvar charges €40 a day on the quay for a boat of 10 to 14.99 m, with help mooring, water, power and two 90-litre bags of rubbish. A catamaran is charged as if it were 1.5 times its length. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

Hvar harbour is sheltered from the bura but open to the jugo, and is rarely calm, because of jugo swell or the heavy traffic inside it. Our cautious answer: don't plan a night on the Hvar quay if a jugo is forecast, and don't anchor in the middle of the harbour. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 28 Sep 2026)

€136 a day on the quay in 2026, 12 m boat (Measured by us, 26 Sep 2026)

### [Pakleni Islands](https://olasail.com/places/pakleni-islands/)

Buoys in Vinogradišće bay, on the south side of Sveti Klement, and ACI Marina Palmižana in the bay on its north side. 2 NM from Hvar town. Night 4 of our route ends in the marina bay. (Measured by us, 25 Sep 2026) €140 a night for a 12 m boat in July and August. (From the operator, 7 Oct 2026)

Open to the southwest. Well sheltered from every wind but those from the south, and the inner bay is sheltered from the southeast too. The islet of Stambedar, 0.5 NM southwest of the entrance, breaks some of a southwesterly. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

### [Stari Grad](https://olasail.com/moorings/stari-grad-town-quay/)

Town quay at the head of a long bay on the north coast, 15 NM from Hvar town by sea. Night 5 of our route. (Measured by us, 25 Sep 2026) The port supplies power, water and diesel, and mechanics, electricians and other boat repairers work in town. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

In strong winds, boats further out in Stari Grad bay should seek shelter in Stari Grad itself. In Zavala, a cove on the Kabal shore 1.7 NM north-west of the town, the bura and jugo can blow hard but raise no high waves, though a north-westerly makes a rough sea; Tiha, further out, is a good anchorage in all winds of moderate strength. (Official source, 6 Oct 2026)

€60 a day on the town quay, 12 m boat (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

### [Vrboska](https://olasail.com/moorings/aci-marina-vrboska/)

ACI Marina Vrboska. At the end of a deep, narrow bay on the north coast. (From the operator, 25 Sep 2026) 116 sea berths. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) Open all year. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

Good shelter from every wind at the end of the long bay, ACI says. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

### Jelsa

A town quay behind a breakwater, 2 NM from Vrboska by sea. (Measured by us, 25 Sep 2026) Jelsa harbour has 54 berths for visiting boats, with water and power points, showers and toilets. The toilets and showers are close to the visitors' berths on the north side. (Third-party source, 27 Sep 2026)

Jelsa is sheltered from every wind except the bura, which blows very hard here. Our cautious answer: if a strong bura is forecast, move to Vrboska, about 1.5 NM away. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)

### Šćedro

A quiet island south of Jelsa, with buoys in the bays on its north side. The county has given the anchorage concession for Porat and Mostir bays, on the north side of Šćedro, to Prijatelji Šćedra d.o.o. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) Šćedro has no mains power. Two restaurants work in Lovišće harbour and one in Mostir. A local producer sells wine, oil and bread. (Third-party source, 27 Sep 2026)

Šćedro's north bays are good shelter in a jugo, but open to the bura. Lovišće's east arm, Rake, is open to the maestral, which also stirs up the sea in the east of Mostir. Our cautious answer: leave Šćedro if a bura is forecast, and in a maestral lie in Lovišće's west arm. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 28 Sep 2026)

Sources disagree on Vinogradišće bay, Palmižana, in a jugo

Our cautious answer: Treat the bay as open to the jugo, and leave if one is forecast.

Sheltered from every wind except southerlies: [More magazin: Zašto Pakleni otoci tako silno privlače nautičare](https://more.hr/blog/zasto-pakleni-otoci-tako-silno-privlace-nauticare-i-sto-u-tom-akvatoriju-dozivjeti/) (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)

## Wind and sea, next 3 days

For Hvar town harbour.

Model forecast from Open-Meteo. Not an official forecast. Not for navigation.

Official forecast: [DHMZ marine forecast](https://meteo.hr/prognoze_e.php?section=prognoze_specp&param=jadran) (Official source, 25 Sep 2026)

How to read this forecast

Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. The words follow the Beaufort scale, and the model can't tell a real bura from any other northeast wind. ## Swim stops on Hvar by boat

Pebble bays on the south coast east of Hvar town, good for a swim before you cross to Vis or go round to the north coast.

No anchoring within 150 m of a natural beach, under the 2025 ordinance. [Anchoring near beaches](https://olasail.com/moorings/anchoring-rules-and-fees/#beaches) Only a company with a concession for that anchorage, or the port authority inside a public port, may charge you for anchoring. Anywhere else, nobody may.

Not in a jugo. The bays east of Hvar town, Milna, Garška and Zaraće, are open to the jugo and southerlies, which can raise a strong to very rough sea, and Zaraće also to the east. Leave them, even at lunch, when one blows. (Official source, 5 Oct 2026)

Milna bay, Hvar

### Milna bay, Hvar

A hamlet and two bays, east of Hvar town: 3.5 NM (Measured by us, 7 Oct 2026)

- How to stop: Anchor in the middle of Milna bay on sand, in about 8 m. A stony shoal lies off the point between the middle and west arms. The county's buoy field is in the east arm, kept clear of swimmers, and the west arm is closed to anchoring over two cables. Our cautious answer: keep clear of the west arm's cables and of the swimming area. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 5 Oct 2026)
- Busy: Boats run from Hvar harbour to Milna, which has several restaurants (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)

Zaraće

### Zaraće

Two small coves under the hills, from Hvar town: 4.5 NM (Measured by us, 7 Oct 2026)

- How to stop: Boats anchor on the north side of Velo Zaraće, clear of its shore, which is shallow and reefy. A small pier and pebble beach are at the head of the bay (Official source, 30 Sep 2026)
- Rules it out: Velo Zaraće is open to winds from the east and south-east, and sheltered from the north, north-east, north-west, west and south-west (Official source, 30 Sep 2026)

Dubovica

### Dubovica

A pebble beach below an old stone hamlet, from Hvar town: 5.5 NM (Measured by us, 7 Oct 2026)

- How to stop: Anchor clear of the buoyed swimming area, and off a natural beach stay at least 150 m out: the 2025 ordinance bans anchoring closer (Official source, 5 Oct 2026)
- Busy: HvarBoats’ south Hvar tour stops at Dubovica from 12:30 to 13:20 (From the operator, 4 Oct 2026)
