# Pakleni Islands by boat

The Pakleni Islands are a chain of small islands about 2 NM off Hvar town. Sleep on a buoy or in the marina at Palmižana, swim in the bays by day, and take a taxi boat over to Hvar town.

€140 a night in July, 12 m boat, ACI Marina Palmižana (From the operator, 7 Oct 2026)

2 NM from Hvar town, about ½ h (Measured by us, 25 Sep 2026)

1 Apr to 31 Oct ACI marina season (From the operator, 25 Sep 2026)

## Where to spend the night in the Pakleni Islands

6 ways to stay the night: buoys, a marina or your own anchor, mostly around Sveti Klement, the biggest island, or the town quay across the channel. Prices are for a 12 m boat in 2026. [Wind and the approach](https://olasail.com/places/pakleni-islands/#wind)

### [Palmižana buoys](https://olasail.com/moorings/vinogradisce-buoys/)

Mooring buoys in Vinogradišće bay, on the south side of Sveti Klement. Night 4 of our route ends in the ACI marina bay on the north side. GIP, a catering business based at Palmižana, runs the buoy field in Vinogradišće bay. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

Open to the southwest. Well sheltered from every wind but those from the south, and the inner bay is sheltered from the southeast too. The islet of Stambedar, 0.5 NM southwest of the entrance, breaks some of a southwesterly. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) [In a jugo](https://olasail.com/places/pakleni-islands/#dispute-palmizana)

### [ACI Marina Palmižana](https://olasail.com/moorings/aci-marina-palmizana/)

On the north side of Sveti Klement, facing Hvar town. Open 1 Apr to 31 Oct. (From the operator, 25 Sep 2026) 180 berths, for boats up to 15 m on a daily berth. Fewer this year, while the marina is rebuilt. (From the operator, 25 Sep 2026) Toilets and showers, a shop, a restaurant and a laundry. Call on VHF channel 17. (From the operator, 25 Sep 2026)

Sheltered from waves and wind most of the time, ACI says. A strong southwesterly to westerly can send a surge into the marina. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

### Mlini

A bay on the west side of Marinkovac. Mlini has a restaurant by the beach, reached by boat or on foot from Ždrilca. (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)

Treat Mlini as open to the south-west and west, and don't plan a night there if a south-westerly or westerly is forecast. The county's anchorage plan calls the water between Marinkovac and Planikovac well protected from every wind, but by our measure from the chart more than 10 NM of open water lies to the south-west and west of where boats lie. In a westerly the current in the passage can reach 4 knots, and it runs strong in any southerly, up to 3 knots in a storm jugo. (Sources disagree, 6 Oct 2026)

### Stipanska

A bay with a beach on the south-east side of Marinkovac, for a lunch stop in settled weather. A large beach venue stands ashore, with jetties on its north and south sides for its guest taxi boats. (Official source, 30 Sep 2026)

Open to every wind and sea. Southerly and westerly winds are the most dangerous and can raise a heavy sea. The bura blows very hard but raises no high waves. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

No concession on the county map, 2026 (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

### Anchorages between the islands

Bays in the channels between the islands, like Ždrilca on Marinkovac, where the photo shows yachts at anchor. No anchoring within 150 m of a natural beach, under the 2025 ordinance. (Official source, 25 Sep 2026) Only a company with a concession for that anchorage, or the port authority inside a public port, may charge you for anchoring. Anywhere else, nobody may. (Official source, 25 Sep 2026)

Boats anchor in 4 to 6 m on sand off Marinkovac. In a westerly the lee of Planikovac is safest, a current runs in the passage, and the bura is dangerous here. Our cautious answer: leave Ždrilca before a bura, treat it as open to the jugo, and mind the current and the shallows in the passages. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)

### [Hvar town harbour](https://olasail.com/moorings/hvar-town-harbour/)

The town quay across the Pakleni channel, from the marina. Busy by day with the wash of passing boats. About 2 NM from Hvar town to ACI Marina Palmižana. (Measured by us, 25 Sep 2026)

Hvar harbour is sheltered from the bura but open to the jugo, and is rarely calm, because of jugo swell or the heavy traffic inside it. Our cautious answer: don't plan a night on the Hvar quay if a jugo is forecast, and don't anchor in the middle of the harbour. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 28 Sep 2026)

€136 a day on the quay in 2026, 12 m boat (Measured by us, 26 Sep 2026)

## Getting to Hvar town

Hvar town is across the Pakleni channel.

- Water taxi: ACI says Hvar town is a short taxi boat ride from the marina. (From the operator, 25 Sep 2026) Times and fares: unknown. [Tell us about the taxi boat times and fares at Palmižana](https://olasail.com/about/corrections/#fact=pakleni.taxiTimes)
- Your own boat: About 2 NM from Hvar town to ACI Marina Palmižana, about ½ h at 6 knots. (Measured by us, 25 Sep 2026)

Sources disagree on Vinogradišće bay, Palmižana, in a jugo

Our cautious answer: Treat the bay as open to the jugo, and leave if one is forecast.

### Approach to the marina

Coming from the south between Borovac and Sveti Klement, the sea is under 5 m deep and the passage has no lights, ACI says. It also warns of Baba rock, marked by a black and red column. Use the official chart. (From the operator, 25 Sep 2026) [The approach in full](https://olasail.com/moorings/aci-marina-palmizana/#approach)

## Wind and sea, next 3 days

Official forecast: [DHMZ marine forecast](https://meteo.hr/prognoze_e.php?section=prognoze_specp&param=jadran) (Official source, 25 Sep 2026)

How to read this forecast

Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. The words follow the Beaufort scale, and the model can't tell a real bura from any other northeast wind. ## Swim stops in the Pakleni Islands by boat

Clear water and pine-lined bays, a short hop from Palmižana. Our [swim and lunch stops on a week from Split](https://olasail.com/routes/split-seven-days/swim-stops/) fits them into the route. No anchoring within 150 m of a natural beach, under the 2025 ordinance. ### Ždrilca, Marinkovac

Day visit or a night at anchor, from the Palmižana buoys. 2 NM

- Fee: The county's concession map shows no anchorage concession at Ždrilca (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)
- Busy: HvarBoats’ south Hvar tour stops at Mlini and Ždrilca from 17:30 to 18:20 (From the operator, 4 Oct 2026)
- Rules it out: Boats anchor in 4 to 6 m on sand off Marinkovac.

Vlaka, Sveti Klement

### Vlaka, Sveti Klement

A lunch stop on the north side, from the marina. 1.5 NM

- How to stop: About ten concrete blocks with buoys serve local and visiting boats. Use them: the county study bans anchoring in the east of the bay over a submarine cable, and the online pilot says anchoring is banned in the whole bay (Official source, 30 Sep 2026)
- Rules it out: Fully open to the heavy sea a bura or a northerly raises. Sheltered from winds from the east round through the south to the west (Official source, 28 Sep 2026)

Taršće, Sveti Klement

### Taršće, Sveti Klement

A swim on the south side, from the Palmižana buoys. 1 NM

- How to stop: Anchor in the middle of the bay in about 6 to 13 m (Official source, 30 Sep 2026)
- Rules it out: Open to the south: a southerly raises big waves in the bay. It is a good anchorage in a bura (Official source, 28 Sep 2026)

### Where to eat

Several restaurants line Vinogradišće bay. Some have their own buoys or jetty for dinner guests: see [restaurant moorings](https://olasail.com/moorings/restaurant-moorings/).

Zori Vinogradišće bay, Sveti Klement

Local catch from the grill, on the water in Vinogradišće bay since 1947. Open May to October, dinner from 18:30. Book online. By yacht, berth in ACI Marina Palmižana and walk over. (From the operator, 4 Oct 2026)
