Charter base in Central Dalmatia

# Split for sailors

Split is the main charter base in Central Dalmatia. Most weeks start on a Saturday from ACI Marina Split in the city, or from Kaštela and the Trogir marinas near the airport; shop in the morning, board in the afternoon and keep the first leg short.

## Marinas and quays in and around Split

Where to start or end a week. Prices are per day for a 12 m boat in July 2026, from each operator's own list. The marinas near Trogir, where many charter companies are based, are on [our Trogir page](https://olasail.com/places/trogir/). ### [ACI Marina Split](https://olasail.com/moorings/aci-marina-split/)

The city marina under Marjan, west of the Riva along the waterfront, and the base of several charter companies. ACI Marina Split has 318 sea berths. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) ACI lists a fuel station 0.05 NM from the marina. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

A solid rock breakwater protects the marina from southerly winds and seas, ACI says. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

€168 a day in July, 12 m boat (From the operator, 7 Oct 2026)

Weekends and catamarans

€168 a day for a 12 m boat in July and August, and 10% more on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Catamarans pay twice. Our advice: in a strong jugo, ask for a berth on an inner pontoon and rig extra lines.

### [The city harbour and the west quay](https://olasail.com/places/split/#west-quay)

Stern-to in the city harbour, below the old town, with the ferries and tour boats. The west quay, Zapadna obala, is 720 m long. The port authority's staff there answer on +385 99 805 3470. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) Elsewhere in the city harbour basin, the Port of Split Authority charges yachts €50 a day up to 12 m, and 15% more from 1 Jul to 31 Aug, so €57.50. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

Our measure from the chart: the west quay has 1.5 to 10 NM of open water to the south and south-west, across the Split channel, so a southerly can send a swell in. (Measured by us, 5 Oct 2026)

€114 a day in July, 11 to 12 m boat (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

### Marina Kaštela

A large marina in the closed bay north of Split, a short taxi ride from the airport. About 5 NM from Split by sea, round Marjan. (Measured by us, 7 Oct 2026) Marina Kaštela has 420 sea berths, answers on VHF channel 17, and has a laundry, a supermarket and two restaurants. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

Marina Kaštela says the bay is protected from winds by Kozjak mountain to the north, Marjan peninsula to the southeast and Čiovo to the southwest. (From the operator, 30 Sep 2026)

€114 a day in July, 12 m boat (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

### Marina Lav, Podstrana

A small hotel marina southeast of Split, handy for a last night before an early flight. Marina Lav, at the Le Méridien hotel in Podstrana, has 74 berths for boats up to 40 m, is open all year and answers on VHF channel 17. Boats must call ahead and keep to 2 knots inside. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

The breakwater shelters Marina Lav from the jugo's waves. Winds from the south-west and west send waves in, the biggest from the south-south-west, and the outer berths are for fair weather only. The report is not consistent about winds from the north and north-east. Our cautious answer: use the outer berths only in fair weather, and expect waves in a south-westerly or westerly. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 5 Oct 2026)

€130 a day in July, 12 m boat (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

## Getting there

The airport is closer to the charter marinas than to Split. Kaštela and [the Trogir marinas](https://olasail.com/places/trogir/) are a short taxi ride away; [ACI Marina Split](https://olasail.com/moorings/aci-marina-split/) is a bus ride and a walk.

- The airport: Split Airport is in Kaštela, 20 km from Split and 6 km from Trogir. Taxis wait near the main terminal during the airport's opening hours. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)
- The shuttle: The shuttle bus leaves the P1 zone in front of arrivals about 30 minutes after each flight lands, and runs non-stop to the main bus station by the ferry port in about 30 minutes. €10 one way, €15 return. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)
- City bus 37: City bus 37 runs between Split and Trogir by way of the airport. A ticket from Split to the airport zone costs €2 in the app or online, or €4 from the driver. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)
- Crew who join later: Jadrolinija's ferries leave Split for Supetar on Brač (line 631, 50 minutes), Rogač on Šolta (line 636, an hour) and Vis (line 602, 2 hours 20 minutes). A fast ship reaches Bol in 1 hour 5 minutes. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) Jadrolinija's desk for local lines at Gat Sv. Duje, in the ferry port, is open 24 hours. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

The airport between Trogir and Split, with ACI Marina Split, Marina Kaštela and the Trogir marinas. Not for navigation.

## Changeover day, hour by hour

Weeks run Saturday to Saturday. Each company sets its own times; these are three of them, from their own pages.

| 9 am | Last week's crews leave the boats. Ultra Sailing, at ACI Marina Split and Marina Baotić: check in on Saturday at 5 pm. Be back by 6 pm the evening before the last day, and leave the boat by 8.30 am on Saturday. One-way charters check out on Friday at 3 pm. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) |
| --- | --- |
| Morning | Laundry, the green market and the heavy shopping.ACI Marina Split and Marina Kaštela both have a laundry and a shop. |
| 3 pm | The Moorings, also at Marina Agana: board at 3 pm. Be back by 6 pm the night before you leave, and off the boat at 9 am. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) |
| 6 pm | Sunsail, at Marina Agana near Trogir: board at 6 pm and sail the next morning. On the last day be back by 5 pm, and leave the boat at 9 am. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) |
| Before you sail | The charter company registers everyone aboard in the Ministry's eCrew system, at the latest when the boat leaves. (Official source, 25 Sep 2026) Without a damage waiver, Sunsail holds €5,865 for a 40 to 49 ft monohull and €7,600 for a 42 to 44 ft catamaran on a Visa or Mastercard; with its daily damage waiver, €800 and €1,037. Ultra Sailing holds €1,600 for a 12.4 m monohull and €2,500 for a 12 m catamaran, in cash or as a card hold. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) |
| Friday | Back in the base marina the evening before you leave: by 5 pm at Sunsail and Dream Yacht Charter, by 6 pm at The Moorings and Ultra Sailing, for fuel and the check-out. You sleep aboard and leave the boat by 8.30 to 9 am on Saturday. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) |

## Shopping and laundry

Buy water, drinks and the heavy things once, in Split, and fresh food along the way.

- The green market: Pazar, the green market, is by the east wall of Diocletian's Palace, around the church of St Dominic. Open 6 am to 2 pm, and to noon on Sundays and holidays. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)
- Fish: The fish market and the markets open 6 am to 2 pm, and 6 am to noon on Sundays and holidays, every day except Easter, Christmas and New Year's Day. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)
- In the marinas: ACI Marina Split: Toilets and showers, a shop and a laundry. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026) Marina Kaštela has 420 sea berths, answers on VHF channel 17, and has a laundry, a supermarket and two restaurants. (From the operator, 26 Sep 2026)

Pazar, the green market by the palace's east gate, a short walk from the city harbour.

## The first day out

Keep the first leg short. After a late check-in, a night 9 NM to 14 NM away leaves time to learn the boat. Most boats leave through the Split Gate, between Šolta and Brač. Our routes from here: [Seven days from Split](https://olasail.com/routes/split-seven-days/), [Split to Dubrovnik in a week](https://olasail.com/routes/split-to-dubrovnik/) and [two weeks through Korčula, Lastovo and Mljet](https://olasail.com/routes/two-weeks-from-split/). [Med mooring, step by step](https://olasail.com/moorings/med-mooring/)

- The Split Gate: More than 20,000 passages a year go through the Split Gate, over 10,000 each way, two to three times more in summer, and about 30% of them fast craft. On 14 Jun 2026 a passenger ship and a sailing yacht collided there. Keep a lookout astern (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) Split vessel traffic service works on VHF channels 12 and 62, and the Split harbour area on channel 9. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026) [Fast ferries and the Split Gate: the rules and the 2026 collision](https://olasail.com/croatia/safety-and-emergencies/#ferries)
- Speed: Within 300 m of the shore, in narrow channels and near harbours and anchorages, go no faster than 8 knots (Article 50). (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)
- Harbourmaster: The harbourmaster's office is at Obala Lazareta 1, phone +385 21 302 405, weekdays 8 am to 1 pm. Its traffic and search and rescue line answers 24 hours: +385 21 362 436. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)

## Wind and sea, next 3 days

For Split.

Official forecast: [DHMZ marine forecast](https://meteo.hr/prognoze_e.php?section=prognoze_specp&param=jadran) (Official source, 25 Sep 2026)

How to read this forecast

Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. ## Swim stops near Split

Three stops within an easy morning of the city, for the first or the last day of a week.

### Kašjuni bay, under Marjan

The nearest swim stop to the city, on the south side of the Marjan peninsula. 2 NM from the city harbour (Measured by us, 7 Oct 2026).

- How to stop: Anchor outside the swimming lines, and off a natural beach stay at least 150 m out: the 2025 ordinance bans anchoring closer. (Official source, 5 Oct 2026)
- The rules: No anchoring within 150 m of a natural beach, under the 2025 ordinance. (Official source, 25 Sep 2026)
- Rules it out: Our measure from the chart: Kašjuni is open to the south, with more than 10 NM of open water, and partly to the south-east, south-west and west. It shows open water only, not where the bay is sheltered. (Measured by us, 5 Oct 2026)

Photo: “Šolta Nečujam Hrvatska Podkamenica 2012 a” by [Joadl](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%C5%A0olta_Ne%C4%8Dujam_Hrvatska_Podkamenica_2012_a.jpg), [CC BY-SA 3.0 AT](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/at/deed.en), cropped and resized

### [Nečujam, on Šolta](https://olasail.com/moorings/necujam-buoys/)

Coves with buoys across the Split channel, a first-day lunch stop. 9 NM from Split (Measured by us, 7 Oct 2026).

- How to stop: In 2018 the county decided to grant a 10-year concession for an anchorage for 48 boats in the Piškera and Maslinica coves. Its 2021 study lists no concession there, so it is not confirmed that buoys are laid. (Official source, 30 Sep 2026)
- Fee: Nečujam is a class III county port: €3 a metre a day for a boat of 10.01 to 15 m, so €36 for a 12 m boat on the quay. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)
- Rules it out: Nečujam is well sheltered from every wind except the bura and other northerlies. Our cautious answer: leave Nečujam if a bura is forecast, and mind the submerged wall in Piškera cove. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, 26 Sep 2026)

Shallow turquoise water west of Čiovo, best on a day out from a Trogir-side base. [The Blue Lagoon on Drvenik: how to stop and the rules](https://olasail.com/places/drvenik-blue-lagoon/)

- Busy: The bay is a favourite anchorage and swimming spot, and tour boats over 20 m anchor there often in season. (Official source, 26 Sep 2026)
