Help keep OlaSail right
Sailed in Croatia this season? Tell us what you found. We check it with the source, change the page and, if you like, credit you by first name.
Prices, buoy fields and rules change every year. Sailors who were there see it first. You don't need an account, and nobody is paid for a report.

Three ways to help
- 1Tell us a fact is still right
Tap a fact's source marker, the small icon and date like this one: (From the operator, ). Then choose "Yes, I saw it" and say when you were there. It takes a moment and needs no account.
It never changes the fact or its date. It tells us what to check next, and the page counts it in one line under "What sailors told us".
- 2Report a change
A different price, a closed buoy field, a new notice on the quay? The form asks where, what changed, how you know and the day you saw it, and whether you have ties to a business there. A photo, your boat, your email and a credit name are up to you. Privacy
You get a reference at once, and your report starts a check. We check it with the source before the page changes, and log the change with why.
- 3Send a photo
A dated photo of a price board, a notice or the buoys helps most. A clear photo of the operator's own price board goes on the page as From the operator, with your name on the photo if you like.
The photo stays yours, and you can take it back. Photo terms
What helps us most
- Price boards and fee noticesA photo with the date, at a buoy field, a town quay or a marina office.
- Closures and new rulesA notice on the quay, a closed buoy field, a new anchoring ban. Tick "This is about safety" if it could put a crew at risk.
- What a place hasHow many buoys, whether a quay has water, power or fuel, and whether a restaurant berth is open this season.
- When a bay filled upThe time you arrived and how many buoys were free. This stays a sailor's report, in its own section, and never becomes a fact.
When your visit becomes a fact
Some things anyone can see or count. When you tell us about one of them, with a dated photo when there is something to photograph, and an editor reads it and finds nothing against it, it goes on the page with its own label:
Seen by a sailor
- The buoys and how many there are
- A notice or a sign
- Water, power, fuel or showers on a quay
- Whether a place is open
- A phone number on a sign
- Shelter, depth or holding
- Hazards
- Emergency numbers
- Rules and fees
Become an area steward
An area steward looks after one area, like Vis or the Pakleni Islands, for a season. It suits a sailor who is there every summer: a charter skipper, a flotilla lead, or someone who keeps a boat on the island.
- What it asksSail the area during the season, check what anyone can see there, read the reports sailors send about it, and tell us about any ties to operators. You never check a place you have ties to.
- What it givesYour first name and initial on the area's page and on People, and our thanks. Nothing is paid, and we never accept a free berth or meal for a check.
- How to startWrite to us with the area, the seasons you have sailed there and any ties you have. An editor gets back to you.
No area has a steward yet. Every area we cover is open.
What happens to your report
- 1Our editor reads it
You get a reference as soon as you send it, and your report starts a check. Every report is read by a person, and a report about safety goes to the top of the list.
- 2We check it with the source
The source responsible for that kind of fact wins: the operator for prices and hours, the official text for rules and fees. A report on its own never changes a fact.
- 3We change the page and log it
The fact gets its new value, label and date, and the page's "Changes" section says why. If we can't check it yet, your report may appear in "What sailors told us", with its date.
- 4We tell you
If you left your email, we send a receipt at once, and write again when we decide: what we changed, or why we didn't. If you disagree, reply and we look at it again.
How we credit you
Only if you fill in "Credit me as", by your first name and the first letter of your family name. Your name then shows with the change you helped with, in the "Kept current with reports from" line of that page, and in the list of sailors on People. Leave it empty and we write "a sailor".
To send us anything, you need to be 16 or older, the age to agree online in Croatia. (Official source, ) The form asks you to confirm it when you give an email or a credit name.
There is no profile page for helpers, no points and no count of your reports. Ask us any time and we take your name off, and write "a sailor" instead. What we keep, and for how long: Privacy
What we don't do
No comments. No likes or ratings. No followers or profiles for helpers. No messages between sailors. This is a reference, not a social network.
A report never changes a fact on its own. The fact's owner checks it with the source first, and the change log says why.
Readers and sailors never need one. Your email is optional, and only for a receipt and a reply about your report. Privacy
Nobody is paid for a report. Independence
The rules
The rules in short. The full rules, and how we moderate, are in our terms of use.
- Say how you knowYou were there, the operator told you, or you read an official notice. A date and a photo help most.
- Don't copy from apps or other guidesWe never take records from other guides, apps or directories, so we can't use a report copied from one.
- Tell us about any tiesThe form asks everyone whether they work for, own, or have family in a business at or near the place. A yes doesn't stop your report: an editor checks it with a source that has no ties to you.
- Operators use their own formIf you run the place, send your prices, hours and services with the operator form. We confirm it's you through the contacts on your own website, and the facts go on the page as From the operator.
- Keep other people out of itNo names of staff or other crews. We blur faces and boat names in photos, and remove the location data before we use one.
- Be fair to businessesTell us what you saw, with the date. We don't publish accusations. For a crime or a safety problem at sea, call the harbourmaster or the police.
