Saturday changeover at ACI Marina Split
Most charter weeks start and end on a Saturday, so the marina, its laundry and the fuel dock are busiest then. A night here on your own boat before or after the charter costs more at the weekend in July and August. (From the operator, )

Shelter by wind in ACI Marina Split
The marina lies behind a solid rock breakwater on the west side of Split's city harbour, north of the Sustipan peninsula. Marjan hill rises to the northwest, and the ferry port fills the rest of the harbour to the east. What ACI and our visits say, wind by wind, is below.
- Jugo and southerliesfrom the southeast and south
- Sheltered by the breakwater. A solid rock breakwater protects the marina from southerly winds and seas, ACI says. (From the operator, ) Our advice: in a strong jugo, ask for a berth on an inner pontoon and rig extra lines.
- Burafrom the northeast
- Split's harbour, where ACI lies, gets frequent and very gusty bura: northerly winds bring sudden, strong gusts but raise little sea inside the harbour, a 2021 study of the port finds. Our cautious answer: double your lines when a bura is forecast, as the port order asks in a storm. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, )
- Maestralfrom the northwest
- The north-westerly measured at Split-Marjan is infrequent and mostly light, force 1 to 4, a 2021 study of the port finds from ten years of data. No source describes the marina itself in a maestral. Our cautious answer: don't count on Marjan hill for shelter in a strong north-westerly: no source confirms it. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, )
The approach. Split is a busy ferry port. Ships leaving it have right of way, and you may not anchor anywhere in the port except in an emergency, ACI says. (From the operator, ) Fast ferries and the Split Gate
You enter between a red light on Cape Sustipan, Fl R 6s, and a green lighthouse on the head of the main breakwater, Fl G 6s, with a fog horn every 30 seconds. The cathedral bell tower and a lit stone obelisk, Fl(2) W 20s, are good landmarks. (From the operator, )
A red tower on the inner breakwater, Fl R 2s, marks the marina's east entrance: keep close to its head. The new waterfront west of the marina has not been surveyed, so don't berth there except at the fuel station. (From the operator, )
Within 300 m of the shore, in narrow channels and near harbours and anchorages, go no faster than 8 knots (Article 50). (Official source, ) HHI nautical charts (Official source, )

How to read this forecast
Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. The words follow the Beaufort scale, and the model can't tell a real bura from any other northeast wind. How to read a model forecast

Anchoring instead? Split is a busy ferry port. Ships leaving it have right of way, and you may not anchor anywhere in the port except in an emergency, ACI says. (From the operator, ) Outside the port, only a company with a concession for that anchorage, or the port authority inside a public port, may charge you for anchoring. Anywhere else, nobody may.
