Tonight in Marina Martinis Marchi, Maslinica
Can we stay here tonight? Yes, the marina is open all year. With only 50 berths, ask the marina first on a summer weekend. (From the operator, )
The approach to Maslinica and shelter by wind
The islets. Seven islets lie off the village: Stipanska, the largest, Balkun, Rudula, Grmej, Saskinja, Polebrnjak and the rock Kamičić. (Official source, )
From the north, keep west of Polebrnjak and Saskinja: between them and Šolta it is shallow, 2.8 m. The passage between Maslinica and Saskinja is only 2 m deep. (Official source, )
From the south, watch for Kamičić, a low bare rock south of Balkun. At night it lies in the red sector of the Sveti Nikola light. (Official source, ) The light on Cape Sveti Nikola, the south point of the entrance, stands on a square stone tower with a dome. (Official source, )
The study advises against coming in at night, because the islets and rocks are hard to see. (Official source, )
Within 300 m of the shore, in narrow channels and near harbours and anchorages, go no faster than 8 knots (Article 50). (Official source, ) HHI nautical charts (Official source, )
Maslinica is the only village on the west side of Šolta, in a bay behind a group of islets. The marina and the county's anchorage study describe its shelter differently, so we give both below, wind by wind.
- Westerly and maestralfrom the west and northwest
- Choppy in the approach. The water in front of Maslinica is only partly sheltered. Westerly and northwesterly winds raise a short, choppy sea and currents of over 0.5 knots, stronger still in a northerly or northwesterly. (Official source, ) Maslinica is sheltered from all winds, but north-westerlies and westerlies raise a chop. Our cautious answer: in a strong westerly or maestral expect movement on the outer berths, and don't take the shallow passages between the islets in a jugo. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, ) In westerly winds, boats anchor in the lee of Balkun in 6 to 50 m. The islets lie in a Natura 2000 area. (Official source, )
- Burafrom the northeast
- Maslinica is described as sheltered from all winds. Our cautious answer: expect some gusts in a strong bura. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, )

How to read this forecast
Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. The words follow the Beaufort scale, and the model can't tell a real bura from any other northeast wind. How to read a model forecast

Free with dinner (From the operator, ) The next bay south, with buoys and restaurant jetties. Šešula is good shelter from every wind except westerlies, above all in a thunderstorm, but it depends on the arm (Third-party source, ). Only the far south-east arm is sheltered from the jugo (Third-party source, ). The north-east arm must be left when a northerly strengthens. (Third-party source, ) Our cautious answer: choose the arm by the forecast, and check your anchor in a westerly or a thunderstorm. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet.

Maslinica, Šolta
On a changeover Saturday in late August 2025 the marina in Maslinica rang a crew still waiting for their charter boat to say it could no longer hold their booking, so they spent the first night at the base instead.
