The week at a glance

How far should a first crew sail in a day? Not far. This Saturday to Saturday week from Trogir keeps to short hops, none longer than 14 NM  (Measured by us, ), so you tie up by mid-afternoon and have time to practise in the harbour. You stay close to Trogir, Šolta and Brač and never cross to Vis; only day 3, along Šolta's open south coast, wants settled weather. A skipper reviewer sailed it and checked it. Every day has a Plan B for the wind.

Boarding day. Sunsail gives 6 pm as its usual boarding time at Marina Agana, its base near Trogir, and sells a 3 pm start as an extra  (From the operator, ). Go on only if you have the boat by 3 pm, so you tie up in daylight.

In Trogir, the morning is for shopping: the town has a green market, a fish market and shops of every kind. (Official source, ) Between errands, walk through the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site on its own small island, to the cathedral of St Lawrence and its carved portal. If you have the boat by 3 pm, sail out to Drvenik Veli, 7 NM away, so you tie up in daylight.

Round the north of Drvenik Veli to the Blue Lagoon, the shallow bay behind the Krknjaš islets, for a morning swim. Then south to Maslinica, on the west tip of Šolta.

    Shelter:
Our cautious answer: in a strong westerly or maestral expect movement on the outer berths, and don't take the shallow passages between the islets in a jugo. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet.
    What the source says
Maslinica is sheltered from all winds, but north-westerlies and westerlies raise a chop  (Third-party source, )

    Shelter:
Our cautious answer: choose the arm by the forecast, and check your anchor in a westerly or a thunderstorm. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. Šešula is good shelter from every wind except westerlies, above all in a thunderstorm, but it depends on the arm  (Third-party source, ). The longest day, and still a short one. Follow the south coast of Šolta and its swim bays, then cross the mouth of the Split Gate to Milna.

In Maslinica, leave in the morning to reach Tatinja by midday: the restaurant in the bay runs the buoys for its guests, and in 2024 you booked and paid by email. Back across the Split channel to Nečujam, a deep bay on the north coast of Šolta, for a quiet last night out.

In Split, shop early: the fish market and the green market open first thing in the morning. What sailors told us

In short, sailors who sailed these waters tell us that when one bay on Drvenik is full the next has room, the Blue Lagoon is busy but still a pleasure, arriving each day between 2 and 3 pm worked well for one crew, and in Trogir groceries can be brought to the marina. Their words are below, quoted from sailing forums with the date each was posted. We haven’t checked them, and they don’t count in our checks above.

1Day 1, Drvenik Veli

We found a few good spots on Drvenik Veli and Drvenik Mali - if one bay is full you just move on to the next.

2Day 2, the Blue Lagoon

Some places - especially the more popular beaches and lagoons - were a bit crowded, but even the famous blue lagoon was quite enjoyable despite the number of vessels and tourists.

We planned to arrive each day between 2 & 3, and that worked out well; we had a capable group and so could drop anchor and Mediterranean moor, which helped us with options in the afternoon.

Trogir, where the week starts and ends

When I started from Trogir, I could order groceries online and have them delivered to the Trogir marina.
