Island in South Dalmatia

Korčula island by boat

Korčula is a long island in South Dalmatia, south of Hvar and across a narrow channel from the Pelješac peninsula, and by sea its town is closer to Dubrovnik than to Split. For the night there is ACI Marina and the town quay in Korčula town at the east end, Marina Korkyra in Vela Luka at the west end, and smaller harbours at Lumbarda, Brna and Prigradica.

Where to spend the night on Korčula

6 places to stay the night. Prices are for a 12 m boat in 2026. Shelter lines name the local winds: the jugo blows from the southeast and the bura from the northeast. What each wind does. Our cautious answer: weather descriptions, not a forecast: read DHMZ's forecast for sailors before you go. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet.

Each part of the day shows its strongest hourly wind and gust, and its highest wave, in Croatian time. The words follow the Beaufort scale, and the model can't tell a real bura from any other northeast wind. How to read a model forecast

Swim stops on Korčula by boat

A day stop off Korčula town, in the channel behind Badija. No anchoring within 150 m of a natural beach, under the 2025 ordinance. (Official source, ) Anchoring near beaches

Badija

Badija

A wooded islet with a Franciscan monastery, just east of Korčula town

How to stop
The Ježevica channel off Badija is one of the port authority's anchorages: anchoring there costs €2.50 a metre a day from 1 May to 31 Oct, so €30 for a 12 m boat. (Official source, )
Watch for
The Lučnjak shoal lies off Badija's north coast, marked by a pole, and the passage between Badija and Planjak is shallow and unfit for navigation. The Ježevica channel, between Badija and Korčula, is 4 to 6 m deep at its north entrance, where the Križ shoal (4.9 m) lies on the way in from the north, and at least 5.4 m deep at its south entrance, between Vrnik and Korčula. Inside the channel lie the low rock Baretica, the Plovita shoal, marked by a west cardinal pole, and the Soline shoal (3 m) north-east of Cape Soline. (Official source, )
Rules it out
The Badija side of the Ježevica channel is sheltered from winds from the west round to the north-west, but open to the south-west, south, south-east and east, where a jugo can raise a rough to very rough sea. A strong bura makes a rough sea at the channel's north entrance. (Official source, )

Korčula old town

A walled town on a small peninsula, its streets laid out like a fishbone. It is a short walk from the town quay and the marina, and the cathedral's bell tower is the landmark as you come in.

What sailors told us

From sailors after a night here. They tell us what to check next, and don't count in the checks above.

ACI Marina Korčula

A boat owner wrote in January 2026 that in high summer ACI Marina Korčula has often had no free berth for two or three days, and that once they had to leave because it was full.

ACI Marina Korčula

A motorboat owner who booked ACI Marina Korčula ahead about two years earlier, and had the booking confirmed, found nobody cared about it when they arrived.

Korčula

Rather than ACI Marina Korčula, one boat owner always moors on the outer mole of the town harbour in the next bay, a five to ten minute walk from the old town.

The first and only time I saw 50kts across the deck was when I got caught out in a summer storm off of Korcula. It was my first summer as a charter skipper and I had no idea about summer storms.

Still right? Facts sailors saw still as we say them, by a tap on "Yes, I saw it" or in a dated forum post. Neither changes the fact or its date.
