Can we stay here tonight? Yes, from 1 Apr to 31 Oct, and best booked ahead this year. (From the operator, )
Shelter by wind in ACI Marina Palmižana
The marina lies in a bay on the north side of Sveti Klement, the largest of the Pakleni Islands. ACI says the bay gives safe shelter from wind and waves most of the time, but a strong southwesterly or westerly can send a surge in. The island's hills are to the south, and Hvar town is 2 NM to the east.
- Lebić and westerliesfrom the southwest and west
- A surge in a strong blow. Sheltered from waves and wind most of the time, ACI says. A strong southwesterly to westerly can send a surge into the marina. (From the operator, ) Our advice: if a strong southwesterly or westerly is forecast, expect the pontoons to move. Rig extra lines and fenders, or choose another harbour.
- Burafrom the northeast
- ACI Marina Palmižana is sheltered from every wind but a strong easterly, the bura included, though a surge builds in strong south-westerlies and westerlies. Our cautious answer: expect gusts in a bura. Expect a surge in strong south-westerlies to westerlies, as ACI itself warns. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, )
The approach. Coming from the south between Borovac and Sveti Klement, the sea is under 5 m deep and the passage has no lights, ACI says. It also warns of Baba rock, marked by a black and red column. Use the official chart. (From the operator, )
From Cape Pelegrin, or from Hvar town, steer for Baba rock, and from Hvar keep well off the islet of Gojca. The entrance has an ACI sign. (From the operator, )
Baba rock, off the entrance, shows only at low tide. By day a black and red column with two spheres marks it, and by night a light, Fl(2) W 10s 7m 4M, at 43°10.1′N 16°23.8′E. (From the operator, )

Palmižana buoys, Vinogradišće bay
€84 a summer night, 12 m boat (From the operator, ) On the south side of the same island. Vinogradišće bay is sheltered from most winds but open to southerly or south-westerly winds, and sources differ on the jugo. Our cautious answer: treat the bay as open to the jugo, and leave if one is forecast. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, )

The town quay and buoys, close to the old town. When a sailor says to arrive

In strong winds, boats further out in Stari Grad bay should seek shelter in Stari Grad itself. In Zavala, a cove on the Kabal shore 1.7 NM north-west of the town, the bura and jugo can blow hard but raise no high waves, though a north-westerly makes a rough sea; Tiha, further out, is a good anchorage in all winds of moderate strength (Official source, ) A long, deep bay and a town quay on the north side of Hvar.

ACI Marina Milna has 148 sea berths (From the operator, ) Across the Hvar channel, in a deep inlet.
Anchoring instead? Only a company with a concession for that anchorage, or the port authority inside a public port, may charge you for anchoring. Anywhere else, nobody may. (Official source, ) No anchoring within 150 m of a natural beach, under the 2025 ordinance. (Official source, ) Anchoring rules and fees

Palmižana, Pakleni Islands
Their first stern-to at ACI Marina Palmižana, in late August 2025, went smoothly in calm weather. On that trip their calls on VHF 17 half an hour out mostly went unanswered, and it was a marinero with a radio on the quay who showed them where to go.
Palmižana, Pakleni Islands
A boat owner who cruises the south of Croatia wrote in August 2024 that ACI Palmižana and ACI Korčula are nearly always full, which is why they look to konoba berths instead.
If the marina is full: Hvar town
I got to places around noon and found that I usually took the last few docks. I got really lucky at Hvar and got a mooring ball.
