Shelter by wind in Hvar town harbour

NNEESESSWWNW

Hvar town harbour faces south, into the channel between Hvar and the Pakleni Islands. The islands break the open sea, but a southerly still reaches the quay.

Jugo and southerliesfrom the southeast to the southwest
Hvar harbour is sheltered from the bura but open to the jugo, and is rarely calm, because of jugo swell or the heavy traffic inside it. Our cautious answer: don't plan a night on the Hvar quay if a jugo is forecast, and don't anchor in the middle of the harbour. Our skipper reviewer hasn't checked this yet. (Third-party source, )

No anchoring off Galešnik. No anchoring within 0.6 NM of the islet of Galešnik, at the mouth of the harbour, out to the line from Rt Špartibutin to Rt Kovač. (Official source, )

The port rules. In the port you may not moor without the port office's say-so, swim, fish, refuel, light fires, make noise over 60 dB or clean the hull. Hand in rubbish and oily water before you leave. (From the operator, )

From Palmižana in late August 2025 they took the fast water taxi across to Hvar town for the evening and again the next morning. The town was packed, but its wide waterfront and squares took the crowds.
